The home for little wanderers
Serving children and youth from birth to 22, The Home makes a positive impact on over 15,000 children and their families each year through a network of services including behavioral health, therapeutic residential and special education, adoption and foster care. We joined the team to manage their media relations and increase their visibility as thought leaders in the field of child welfare. We have secured visibility for The Home’s work in a variety of media outlets including the Boston Globe, the Boston Business Journal, and NPR.
the massachusetts children’s trust
The Children’s Trust is on a mission to stop child abuse in Massachusetts. They brought us on board to help them grow their visibility in the media and spread awareness of programs proven to prevent child abuse and neglect. Media coverage includes WCVB Channel 5, Scary Mommy, the Boston Globe, and NPR.
GVPedia
GVPedia arms policymakers, advocates, and the public with facts and data to create evidence-based policy to reduce gun violence. A hands-on member of the small team, we provide strategic communications and guidance to the growing organization. Recent successes include a Washington Post op ed bylined by GVPedia.
Thompson Island Outward Bound
Located on Thompson Island just off the coast of Boston, Thompson Island Outward Bound provides programming for Boston’s middle schoolers that combines academic and hands-on learning with social and emotional learning using the Outward Bound model. We work with TIOBEC’s one-woman communications team to build visibility for the organization and provide strategic guidance as needed. Recent media coverage includes WCVB 5 for Good, Boston Business Journal, and a variety of local community newspapers.
A Faith That Does Justice
An interfaith organization that inspires faith in action, A Faith That Does Justice turned to Alicia Curran Communications to grow its audience and spread the message of living faith in action. We provide strategic direction as well as hands-on implementation of the communications program. We recommended, developed, and write a weekly newsletter that reaches over 4,000 subscribers.
Sociedad Latina
Since 1968, Sociedad Latina has been working in partnership with Latino youth and families to end the cycle of poverty, inequality to access of health services, and lack of educational and professional opportunities in its community. Wanting the celebration of its 50th anniversary and its corresponding capital campaign to stand out from the crowd, Sociedad Latina worked with Alicia to develop unique and inspiring messaging and to write its annual report.
The Country Hen
The Country Hen is a Massachusetts-based organic egg producer. When the Massachusetts Legislature was quietly considering a budget amendment to overturn a voter-approved ballot initiative requiring humane poultry farming practices in Massachusetts, the Country Hen partnered with Alicia to make noise on Beacon Hill. We worked with the local NPR station to produce a story bringing awareness to the bill while also penning an op ed and letters to the editor from local farmers and egg consumers opposing the change. The strategy worked and the amendment did not pass.
Tread Labs
Tread Labs is a Massachusetts-based start up that developed a topline, sustainable insole. Facing confusion from consumers about what made the insole unique, Tread Labs hired Alicia to conduct an audit of its current communications and its competitors messaging. We provided branding and messaging recommendations to help the company stand out from the competition.
